McDonald India: Cold chain Management

McDonald India began its journey in the year 1996. They wanted to have integrated supply chain management to reduce their overall cost. Company was looking for a partner who is having experience in managing their warehouses and it should act as center for all its vendors. After the due diligence they identified Radhakrishna Foodland Private limited(RFPL). Various items from different places are delivered to RFPL distribution center in cold storage vans. RFPL distribution centers in Mumbai and Delhi supplied these items to Mc Donald outlets as and when needed. One of the highlight of this distribution was RFPL was supplying semi finished product in refrigerated vans to maintain freshness and moisture. The temperature was maintained throughout the distribution and drivers are asked not to put of chilling even in the huge traffic jams. Distribution centers or warehouses can keep the inventory for 14 days only. This has ensured minimization of cost and optimizes the quality control. As goods were having less shelf space warehouses should be ready for round the clock movement of trucks.
